The Victorian building was originally built in 1838, its purpose was to house the poor. The poor and destitute were forced to live in such grim conditions. Later, the property became a workhouse and a hospital. The unruly inmates from the workhouse were sent to the vagrants wing, which is a separate building which still stands on the property with many of its original fixtures and fittings. On this vast site there is also a mortuary aswell as the hospital.

There's an additional separate building called the cottage, this is where patients and inmates were sent if they had infectious diseases.

In 1954 the property became a care home for the elderly then shortly after the building was slightly modernised to become the Bron y Garth NHS hospital. This closed down in 2008 and sat abandoned for just under 10 years. Many of the hospital furniture and apparatus still lies here in this incredible location.

Paranormal activity has been reported here. Sightings of full body apparitions, dark shadows, disembodied voices and doors opening and closing.
