A fascinating location, brand new to Afterlife and Spooky Events. The Castle, now a magnificent pub is known to be an old courthouse from 1737 and was built on the original site of the castle's gatehouse.

Join Afterlife and Spooky Events as we investigate the historic Castle Pub that adjourns the ruins of Halton Castle in Runcorn. The pub is located on the top of Halton hill with panoramic views of Runcorn and the River Mersey.
For over 900 years, Halton Castle has stood stoically overlooking the town of Runcorn, a dramatic symbol of strength and protection, but also fear in the eyes of those who would be trialed and executed here.
Criminals would be held in the underground cells beneath the courthouse, trialed on the upper floors and marched down the staircase at the front of the building and hung from the gallows.
In 2015, two human skeletons were unearthed on the castle grounds. Many others have said to be buried within the grounds after their execution.
